General Membership Meeting

NSBRA general membership meeting is Thursday, January 8th at MM Ranch House Restaurant, 645 Antelope Blvd, Red Bluff at 6:30pm.

Winter is Here!!! But we have Alot of Races

NSBRA is really growing. We have several arena operators that are calling and co-sanctioning their races with NSBRA. Exciting news, this allows NSBRA members to choose from several different arenas with several different payouts, awards and entry fees. Please look at the flyers that are available on our website.
We have a new arena in Lincoln, CA. This is the B-Bar Arena, they are having a buckle series starting in January running through April. Buckles will be awarded to each OPEN division winner. To be eligible for buckle, must compete in 3 of 4 races and must be a PacWest member. NSBRA is the co-sanction. Buckles will be presented after the Open on April 18th. $500. added to the OPEN race, EF:$55.00. There will be Youth, Senior and OPEN/AM following. For more details see flyer on this website.
Let's don't forget our local operators that are having races during the week, so that we can keep our horses going, and competitive. Sheri, Gail, Tami and Christine are all hard at work keeping arenas prep and ready for the weekly races. It is very cold right now, and some of us are fair weather races, but we have to try real hard to overcome hibernation habits and support these gals. Without them our association would suffer. Next month (Jan) there are races every week somewhere in your area. Attending these races will support our arena operators and enhance our year-end finals.
Mark your calendars; our Annual Spring Classic is, Saturday, March 28th. Details are still being worked out, but this will be in the Red Bluff Pavilion at the Tehama County Fairgrounds in Red Bluff.
See you at the races!!!!

Board Decision - Regarding Saddles

To all Members, NSBRA's Board of Directors made a difficult decision at our last meeting. It was presented in the minutes, but not in detail. We felt that it is important that all members know how this decision was made.
In the past, NSBRA has been able to award saddles for the year-end and finals to the winners of each category. Gradually over the years, this dollar amount has increased considerably. This amount was approximately $10,000 a year for all ten saddles, but the last three years or so, it has been over $15,000, and we expect another increase this year. At the December meeting, our awards committee and board evaluated the economic aspect of awarding ten saddles versus five. Two-thirds of NSBRA's annual awards budget goes towards the purchase of saddles. This dollar amount limits the ability to purchase quality and useable awards for the remaining places. Secondly, sponsorships have proven to be more difficult to obtain with the overall economic situation. Last year, NSBRA collected more dollars for sponsorships than the past two years, however, even this was only enough to pay for approximately three saddles. Even with the increase in sponsorship, the donations were smaller. Each company, business and individual were more than happy to contribute, but were extremely limited in their amounts and several sponsors were providing product or services rather than money. Last but not least, the saddles themselves and their outcome: Over the years, the membership votes on what saddles to purchase and award. It is a difficult decision to select a saddle that would be cost effective, but also what the membership wants. Last year, out of the ten saddles awarded, four of them were for sale immediately after our finals. This has been a normal reoccurrence for several years now. This is not due to the quality of the saddle but to personal taste; everyone has their own personal preference. It has become quite apparent that purchasing ten saddles may not be the most effective use of our awards budget. So, with these three things in mind, the board elected not to purchase final saddles for this year. This will allow our awards committee to be more creative and cost efficient with the awards budget. NSBRA is looking forward to another successful year in 2009, and felt this was a decision that best suited our overall membership.
